Although I have only been a member of the Cat Blogosphere for about 4 months I have made many friends and learnt quite a few things.
If you sophisticated kitties promise not to laugh at me for being an ignorant puss, I shall share them here with you.
1. I didn't know what a cat tree was. The only trees that I knew were the ones in gardens and on roadside.
High points for me aren't top of bookshelves or cupboards but top of the jacaranda trees and roof.
2. Nip - Australian kitties don't react to catnip. The gene responsible for the reaction has been bred out of them.
3. Toys - I never knew that there were specific cat toys. I used to play with whatever there was in the back garden - flowers, leaves and lemons that have fallen from the trees, insects, lizards, mice, birdies and butterflies until SS bought a small ball for me from the pet shop after reading about toys other cats have in the CB.
4. Gotcha Day - I never knew what a Gotcha Day was. I still don't know mine.
5. Habits of indoor kitties - I have always been an outdoor kitty and stay indoors for a very short period of time each day. Hence, I expand my destructive energy on plants, garden posts and furniture rather than lounges, curtains and cushions. Thundering herds of elephants are relatively quiet on grass. I don't have a specific scratching post - I scratch on trunks of trees and rose bushes. SS never chastises me for it. I sleep in a box lined with SS's old clothes or newspapers; the box and lining get changed frequently because I like new boxes and linings. Gizzy quilt is something of an unattainable luxury. The closest I get to that is half of the Turkish rug under gran's rocking chair.

You are a real independent spirit, MoMo! I like to scratch trees and logs outside, too. You can get real good scraaaatch goin' on.
Your buddy, Jimmy Joe
Hi, MoMo, really enjoyed your post. Gives perspective into how cats in other places live. Sounds like a great life, too. Would you trade with a different cat for the indoor life?
Just asking,
Missy Blue Eyes
Missy - Perhaps not. I would consider it only if the house were bigger and the humans were home much more often. In the weekends when SS is home I would spend more time indoors. I prefer the stimulation that outdoor life gives me.
I alas do not have a gizzy either, but neither am I allowed on such fantastic trees as you have either!
You has learned a furry lots in a short amount of time . . . more to learn!
Thanks for voting on my site!! You should enter your cat in my next tournament! You could win some cash! =) Anyway round 1 is over. Round 2 starts today, I hope you vote again.
Wow, MoMo, you've learned a lot! We have to admit that we like being spoiled indoor kitties. Outside is too dangerous for us, so we are happy to go outside only on our harnesses or in our stroller.
Look at you! You gorgeous cat!
Look at you! You gorgeous cat!
Momo
what an interesting life you have! See I learned a lot from you and boy would I like to scratch on those trees!
Purrs
Abby
High points are the top of Banyon trees and the roof. But inside it's the hood over the stove, the closet shelf and the top of the bookcase. I go inside and outside so I know about both.
Did you see on my blog how the lawn care people butched my palm tree? They took almost all the leafs off! Now what will do I for shade?
It sounds like you have a good life there in Australia. Too bad about the nip, tho - you're really missing something there.
Oh, MoMo . . . I never knew you learned so much about other kitties . . . like kitty toys! Your SS is a sweetie to go out and buy you the ball after reading about kitty toys. I think you have a great life outside, but our neighborhood is too dangerous for kitties, so we have to stay inside. When mommy was growing up, all of her kitties were indoor/outdoor and were pretty safe, but the area has changed a lot since then so it is indoors for us.
I didn't know Australian kitties don't react to nip. Its amazing that we can all be cats but live such different lives. I'm glad we're friends!
Kaze
We weren't really done promising when we started reading # 1. And started laughing... so sorry....
And we should know better! We are indoor only at night (and bad weather, hahahaha) and do not have "cat trees" either BUT and get this: our cat post that the butler built for us is in a jacarandi tree!
You made that up, # 2, we understand!
Our toys too are wildlife... the staff doesn't like that, so sometimes we get "homemade" things...they usually involve just crumbled up paper, ropes and stick. YUK. Good thing that we won a contest of Skeezix and he sent us a real whirly bird toy!!!! We all LOVE that!!!
We learned about the gotcha day on CB first too, hahahahahaha.
And we had to figure out what 'stinky goodness' means, hahahahaha. And we didn't know that humans were beans either - we still don't know where that came from?
But we sure LOVE the CB for meeting all these wonderful friends like you ALL OVER THE WORLD!
And go to OTHER places in the world together, hahahahahahaha
Karl
MoMo, I just learned many new things from you too. I never knew that about catnip with Autralian cats, either.
Oops, I spelled Australian wrong. I am very sorry.
I don't react to catnip either. My brother Whiskers went nuts whenever Mommy got us a toy with catnip in it. She stopped buying it when he got older cause she was afraid he would have a heart attack.
We don't know if the girls react to catnip. Charybdis is so hyper naturally that Mommy is afraid to see. ~Socks
We would trade you a cat tree for a real one any day!
MoMo, we've given you an award.
Gosh, we didn't know Australian kitties are immune to the glorious effects of 'nip!
We love scratching outside - that's one of the reasons we hate winter, we become indoor kitties for 3 to 4 months!
We loved your list, it's fun to see how different and the same we all are!
Momo sissy
You awe an adventoowess..I think you own all those twees and evewything in the yawd and that's pawsome, just pleeze don't wandew away..OK??
I love youw twee!! it's way bettew than a scwatching post!

I liked your post, Momo. Hearing about your life as an outdoor kitty has been fun for me. I scratch on tree trunks vicariously through you!
That was fun to read yur post, MoMo! You sound like you have lotsa funsies outside. And yur right, it would be hard to play thunderin herd of ellyfants on soft grass!
Kittyhugs and purrs from MaoMao!
That's a rad tree! You look like a possum up there. I'm a bit jealous that you get to stay out all night every night... you should totally start your own Kitty Fight Club...
We indoor kitties get to learn about the outside from you!
Well, the first rule of Kitty Fight Club is that you don't talk about Kitty Fight Club, and the second rule of Kitty Fight Club is that you don't talk about Kitty fight Club, but I can make an exception for you, MoMo. Kitty Fight Club is pretty much like human Fight Club, as depicted in the 1996 novel by Chuck Palahniuk and the 1999 film starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. It's just when a buncha guycats and girlcats get together at night for the sole purpose of beating the crap out of each other. For fun. I'm not a violent cat, I just like to rumble...
Hey, I don't know when my gotcha day is either! Whenever the Monday or Tuesday of O-week at the University of Tasmania was in Feb 2002. So, it's kinda soon!
Wow, trees look like fun! Too bad i've never been in one, and ... from the looks of it... i'm not gonna either.
You've got a good life, Momo, if you are safe outdoors. We always have to stay inside because in so many areas neighbors don't like cats and have them picked up by Animal Control and taken to the pound. Or poison them. So we're safer inside.
We're glad you get to go inside the house and spend time with SS, though.
Jan's Funny Farm
You gets to go outside all the time! I is so envious!
Hey MoMo - sorry I haven't visited you in a while. I've just had problems catching my SMS cause she's been busy at work and her going on a training course and then she is trying to catch up with work. GRRRR...not a happy camper but finally caught her after she went out to dinner for pizza....mmmm.
Cool photo of you in the Jacaranda tree. I like scratching trees but love scratching couches more!! You SM has experienced it first hand! HEE HEE HEE.
I didn't know they were called tree
What is a gotcha day? I am way too new at all this stuff. I've definitely had a sheltered life.
sissy!! We're the 32nd to leave comment.. :( geeee, we're so late to call in.
Anyways we can't believe it's been only four month since you joined CB,which means that must be the time we met. :)
It must be fun to play with actual lemons from the tree. We didn't know lemons grow in the garden. How nice! We believed we had to go to a supermarket to get one.
Have a super nie weekend!
Momo & Pinot (It's snowing here again!)
Wow!! We're not kitty cats, but that tree sure looks great fur climbing and stuff!
Wags and licks,
Maya and Kena
We must have started bloggin about the same time, I didn't realize that. The bloggin world is an interesting one and educational. I too have learned many things since bloggin but the one I have learned the most is of the wonderful kitties, doggies, and other four legged critters are so sweet and wonderful to get to know. I have made many great friends, with you being one of the first, and also have now three sissies and a little bto, you being one of my sissies.
The mom of the house is still not at home, bad weather has kept her from arriving tonight at home. She is safe and will come home tomorrow. I teleported my thoughts to her and she is sending you this message. I hope she gets home soom as I need help with getting ready for Monday, if you know what I mean, ha, ha, ha. What fun we will have. Have a few things to finish up.
Hi MoMo,
That's some interesting infor that you are sharing! I guess indoor dogs and outdoor ones will also have different lifestyle too. :)
MoMo - you really do have a lot of cool things outside, but it's good to learn about the inside things too!
I just hope you are always safe out there!
Hi Sissy Momo
I've missed you!
I'm sowwy you couldn't see the videos of me wunning awound like a maniac hehehehe...I'm suwe it would have been much too cold fow you, but I loved it
smoochie kisses
Asta
I like the way you think, MoMo! I would like to try scratching on tree trunks and rose bushes.
Sometimes, my mama wishes we didn't have such a reaction to 'nip - like when she is sleeping and we play thundering herd of elephants up & down the stairs!
I sleep on my mom's bed. I don't know what a cat tree is either. Mom says I wouldn't use it anyway since I don't like to get up on stuff.
Hello Sissy!!
How are you?? Hope you're having a relaxing sunday! Here? Business is usual=cold. Thanks for stopping by our blog! You were the first one, yay! :)
Momo & Pinot
Get dresses up for tomorrow, it's RED CARPET DAY!!!!
I like your post, Momo. But I am really confused about the nip....you really should try it again.
I don't think i have ever been up in a real tree, only a cat tree.
