Today is a long day as Charlie would like to explore the Ashford Castle a mediavel castle which is way out west, near Cong on the shore of the lovely Lough Corrib in County Mayo. It was built in the 13th century by the Anglo-Norman de Burgos family, after their defeat of the O'Connors of Connaught. It was rebuilt and extended by the Guinness family in the 1850's and is now a 5 star hotel.

The Irish warpipes are analogous to the Scottish highland bagpipes. They have a long history in both Ireland and Scotland although in the last 200 years or so the Scottish tradition has overshadowed the Irish ones

Wow! You and Sassy sure do know your history! When our human was working with the fire and police (back in the days she worked on an ambulance) she found out that there is a very strong Irish tie within both departments. That is because the Irish immigrants often took jobs that other did not want (like fire and police in the old days). They always played bag pipes at the funerals of fire fighters and police officers, as well as in Irish day parades. That is when the human found out that bagpipes aren't just for the Scots!
Looking forward to tomorrow!
Love,
Opus O'Tinytail and Rosoce McNutty
ps.You wouldn't know anything about a game of Thundering Elephants that went on in the hallway last night, do you?
What fun!

Roscoe and Opus - SS has some very good friends who are scholars in Celtic studies and she herself are into Celtic music. AND we used to have an Irish neighbour who played his bagpipe nice and EARLY every morning. Sheesh!
Oh my stars! I just loved that.
Tigger and Trixie just happened to be sitting near each other for that photo - Pye got an individual one made with the same kit. :)
All three live under the topcatrules 'rule' - each one thinks they are the top cat.
But Tigger wanted a little something to call her own, that she has control of - thus Tigger the FBI Cat was born. And Tigger's blog has just been 'picked up' by a Swedish digital scrapbook designer - we are now on her Creative Team.
The Evergreen pic was one of her's from her gallery. You'll be seeing a couple of her designs each month on Tigger's blog from now on.
my sister's a scottish fold. she wants to know if she can join the furry bagpipers? it looks like you guys are having a lotta funs.

Wow, what fancy costumes you all brought! And an outside picnic sounds like a lot of fun. The grass there looks especially yummy.
Your buddy, Jimmy Joe
We like Celtic music too.
Bagpipes early in the morning, Monday - Thursday would be OK as we have to get up early then to tell Daddy bye-bye before he goes to work. But the rest of the time we are sleepy bugs and like to sleep in undisturbed by music of any kind. ~Scylla, Charybdis & Socks
