Thursday in the Garden

With winter fast approaching, and don't I know it with the wet, cold weather in the last few weeks, the roses are bidding their farewell until next spring.......

The oranges and the irises, however, are rearing their heads ......

And these buds which will become lovely blossoms soon....

Does any cat know what plant it is? These were given to us last year and they seem to be coming on quite well.

Oh, we said goodbye to our roses LONG ago! I heard it's been very wet in Sydney lately. Keep your paws dry!

Your roses are divine! We will say goodbye to yours as we start to say hello to ours. We don't have too many roses but we have a few.

We agree, it's a Christmas Cactus. Our mom has one and it blooms twice a year, once in summer and once near Christmas time. The roses look so pretty!

Gosh it's weird seeing a garden in which things actually grow. It's very different to what we are used to ;)

You roses are lovely! mom wants to get a little rose bush for our house. She just got some bulbs for our sisbean's fundraiser. She got Freesia's and Lucifer Crocosmia. They are a hummingbird and flutterby bush. She is going to plant the bulbs on Monday.

Yup, it's definitely a Christmas Cactus. Our mum has a huge one that used to belong to dad's mum and it is over 40 years old. It goes out on the patio in it's pot for the summer then goes back in the porch during September and then it blooms with hundreds of pink flowers just before Christmas.

Those are pretty roses but they will be back.
Mom has seen that plant before but can not remember what it is called.

Lynettea says it is a Christmas cactus too. She had one a long time ago before I was born. She is incredibly ancient like the Sphinx.
