Kitties from Vietnam

Mieow! I am back!!! I do miss visiting my furriends. Now that SS is back from the wilds and more importantly, recovered enough from her operation to help me blog and visit, I have lots to say. That is, when I feel rested enough to emerge from my cool den, aka under the house, because it has been hot, hot and hot.

While SS needs to get some recent pics of me, I will let her show some of the kitties that she met in North Vietnam. Believe me, you would not want to be living there. It's not a kitty-loving place. Look at these poor kitties.....
This starving, thin kitty actually lived in a restaurant set up to train young people for the hospitality industry. You would think she would at least get food from the kitchen, if not the patrons. Needless to say SS shared her meal with the poor kitty. Note the collar is made of nylon string.

This one is better nourished but still underfed. He lived in a road side cafe. Yes, he also shared SS's lunch ....

This is the best-fed of all. His home is high in the mountains, where SS stopped for a lunch rest during her trek. He also shared SS's lunch and nosed around SS's back pack.

This is the most heart-breaking of all.....

A leopard-cat kitten caught by the locals in the wild. He was trapped, coped up in this cage and was fed left-over rice only. He hissed at anyone who came close. When SS showed his picture to the villagers they said that he would be sold as a delicacy. Doesn't it just break your heart?

It must have been such a horribly confronting experience. We hope that the people saw SS's kindness, and that it gave them cause to re-think their behaviour.

We also hope that SS is well recovered!

It is hard to see those kitties in a far away country and knowing that you can't do anything for them. When mom was staying in the north of Germany around New Year there was a dairy farm just across the road. They visited it and believe us, the cats were in really bad condition too. In Germany. They obviously had an upper respiratory infection thing running rampant in the whole colony. They were all tiny, sneezing, had crusty eyes and were so very dirty. It was heartbreaking.

Oh, we wants to go rescue the leopard cat. We wishes there was some way to help him and all of the cats in Vietnam.

Hello Momo, we are glad your Mom has recovered. Thank you for giving the poor cats in Vietnam a shout out. Cats have the most miserable lives there and the people have shown themselves to be very resistant to the work of several charities over there who have been trying to help them learn about animal welfare. It's horrifying the lives these poor cats lead and the end that poor leopard cat will have just breaks our hearts. SS was kind to help the tiny kitten by sharing her meal. Every little act of kindness helps.

It is heartbreaking. Mum read in the paper quite some time ago about all the cats and dogs stuffed into crates and taken to the markets to be sold to the restaurants. It also described the way they were killed and she can't get the images out of her mind, and it makes her cry every time she thinks about it. We are glad SS fed the kitties and gave them some comfort.

You have a kind mama. A real human's heart is touched by inhumane treatment of any living thing...

Oh SS we don't know how you didn't bring all of them home in a suitcase. We are lucky indeed.

that's the reason the maid says she'll NEVER travel to asia. she would get in MAJOR trouble there because she couldn't bear it.... just thinking about the things people do to animals there makes her sick for days...

but it's good that SS and therefor you too are back!!!!
and we'll see you any moment now at gracie's party, right?
