Shelter Aware Day

As an ex-street kitty, I am 200% behind shelters, especially the kind souls at no-kill shelters. Kudos to all the volunteers in these shelters. Without all the wonderful work that they are doing, many more kitties would suffer and be homeless.

Every little contribution helps. SS and her friends have decided to donate to the shelters and charities instead of buying each other birthday and Christmas presents.

What a lovely plan :) We've been excited to read about the progress towards No Kill that some of the big Australian shelters are making, the Queensland Animal Welfare League in particular. We've been similarly horrified by the situation for cats in Victoria. Hopefully the election will see the promised repeal of the 28 day rule (a rule that appalls us).

A great post=we hope all homeless kitties and woofies will find loving homes and until they do, they need no kill shelters to protect and care for them...We need more animal lovers making the laws, no doubt...We loved all your beautiful photos in your pretty garden, sweet girl and we hope you have a fun week ahead, lovely friend...xoxo...Calle, Halle, Sukki

WE sure like that idea of not having presents and donating to the shelters. The shelters need all the help they can get. If everyone would just spay and neuter, we would have less animals in the shelters.

What a great post. As a longtime volunteer at a no-kill shelter, I can tell you that we appreciate you getting the message out. Thank you!

We love the idea of donations rather than presents!! Mom has done that before and gotten a few "presents" that way as well.

I think that is a great idea! Maybe my human and her boyfriend should do that - my human always hates the clothes he gives her and never wears them. The money would be much better spent going to help homeless kitties.

That is a nice plan. Mum and her brofurs don't exchange prezzies either, so mum should/could put those green papers to work at the shelter.

My mommy admires all shelter workers and volunteers. She volunteered (and once she finds one permanant job instead of 2 part timeones and job hunting) will do it again at a "open admission" shelter, also known as a kill shelter. The beans there work very hard to keep the animals alive and healthy until they are adopted, but unfortunately that isn't always possible.

Although she admires no-kill shelters, many times in Ohio in the US, no-kill shelters get "full" or can decide what age animals they will take (ie: the most adoptable) and the rest have to go somewhere so they are dumped at the open admission shelter.

We got a levy passed in our county to build a nice new shelter that houses many more animals in better conditions and that has lead to more adoptions (and good press).

I wish all beans would spay and nooter until all the shelter animals find loving forever homes!
