Dreaming

I was just telling the gang recently that SS and I have been celebrating by sharing a salmon steak (and SS let me have as much as I wanted before she finished the rest, bless her!) due to a welcoming change in her job situation. Well, of course the whole gang was happy for us but got a little carried away over the thought that we would dine on salmon steak everyday. On that totally unfounded assumption, Karl and Ruis decided that they would migrate and live next to us......

While I, too, would dearly love this to be the case, I have to tell these lovekitties that they are dreaming. :sigh:

On that note, I would also have to face the bad news. With SS's improved employment situation my blogging and visiting time would be severely curtailed. We will miss you all but SS promises that she will help me visit and post whenever possible.

Birthday Party for Ruis - CANCELLED

It's a long way for me to travel because he lives in Holland. First, the gang meet up in Schiphol, Amsterdam, from where we take the train to where Ruis lives.....

Where is efurrybuddy? Sure I got the right day. Uh oh, wrong time. My body clock is still Aussi time and this is Europe. Duh! More napz while waiting for the others to turn up.

My lilac garden

My SS has been super busy lately and we have not been able to blog or visit as much as we would have liked. We miss you all.

We have had a wet spring and today is officially the first day of summer. Here is my lovely lilac garden ....

It is with a very heavy heart and leaky eyes that I have to report that my good furriend Dr Tweety has been diagnosed with cancer. Some of you may remember this very humorous and feisty kitty and his lovely family of furries. Please go and leave purrs.

Yay, my SS came back and it means more treats, more cuddles and snuggles and more importantly I get to go out to the garden for some sun on my tum...

Survey the neighbours' gardens and their woofies from the high vantage point of my roof....

And watch the birdies and butterflies from my own garden bench...

A big thankyou to all my furriends who came to visit and keep me company during the time my SS was away. Now that she is back please come by and she will treat us all to some nice cheese, milk and ham.

On a less exuberant note, my beautiful furriend Parker is having serious health problem. She is one of our oldest blogging furriends and we love her dearly. I am turning up my purring motor for her and hope that things go smoothly for her and her family.

Home alone

I am home alone this week because SS is working out of town. My uncle and cousin are coming to visit and feed me twice a day. Even though weather isn't fantastic, I still miss being able to go out to the garden.

Look forward to SS coming home next week. In the mean time I can't visit any of my furriends. Be good, efurryone, [::sniggers::] and stay well.

Live Strong

This is the first time we participate. Today we remember all our friends, both humans and furries, who have gone to the Bridge as a consequence of cancer and those who are still fighting against it. Amongst these are my uncle and cousin who died of brain tumours (they were young when the cancer struck) and my aunt who is a survivor of breast cancer. Fresh in our minds is a good friend of SS, who is still undergoing treatment of breast cancer. We purr and pray that these can be controlled some day so that humans and furries can live their lives to the fullest.

Floofy Friday

Things are not looking good for furries

A recent report from the Australian Companion Animal Council shows that dog and cat ownership is down across Australia in the past decade, with dog population decreasing by at least 14% and cat population dropping by about 10%. It blames high-density living, decline in the rate of home ownership, changing lifestyles and government legislation for this depressing trend. It states that “the costs associated with maintaining pets, difficulty in finding care during holidays, time constraints and moving to rented accommodation, particularly apartments, were the most common reasons why people no longer included animals in their households.”

In Australia, many apartment strata laws exclude the keeping of furries. With rental situation being tight in the cities, landlords are also excluding applicants with furries for houses and town houses.

The laws and regulations around pet ownership need to be changed and the public needs to be educated about finding and looking after the right pet because having the companionship of a pet is one of the most enjoyable life experiences, as we all know.

Adopt cats, you won't regret it!!!

Easy like (No) Sun-day

With the recent lovely spring sunny weather I have been hoping to show you all how I could relax in the sun like this....

but it was not to be because Sun Day has been replaced by wind, rain and flood in the garden. The temperature dropped by 10C in as many minutes and winds of up to 90km/h swept through the city. I sensibly took up my position by SS's bed and snoozed for the rest of the day...

Because of the early arrival of the warm weather this spring all the flowers are blooming early. Does anyone know what the red plant is?

Never say this kitty is lazy...I am a very much a paws-on gardener. Here I am examining the jacaranda tree. In about 6 weeks it will be blooming lilac.....

Today is the birthday of my old furriend Opus. He is sixteen!! As he hasn't been well lately, Gracie is hosting a surprise party at her place to cheer him up and hopefully make him feel better. Please all go along and wish him a happy one.

Celestial and terrestial cats

Have you ever look at the night sky and wonder if there were cats out there?
There sure are! And BIG ones too!

Just look at this paw...

Cat's Paw nebula (NGC6334). Discovered in 1837, this magnificent nebula can be located at the tip of the Scorpion's tail in Scorpius. It is 5,500 light years away and is many times the mass of the sun. Big cat indeed that has such paws. It is an emission nebula and its red colour is due to an abundance of ionized hydrogen atoms. Look at this, isn't it pretty?

The Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543) discovered way back in 1786 is a planetary nebula in the constellation of Draco, about 3,300 light years away. Like us kitties, the Cat's Eye Nebula has one of the most complex forms. Eleven rings, or shells, of gas make up the Cat's Eye.

Spring Garden

As mentioned before, we are having a glorious spring week. It's been warm and sunny - quite unusual for so early in spring. So this gardening kitty wastes no time in watching over her domain.

As any CEO would tell you, planning is everything, so I must spend some time in planning what to do today....

Well, the orchids need inspection as they are starting to flower ....

Then I would go clockwise around the garden to check progress of the other plants....

Time to rest in the shade of the jasmine tree.....

Now, SS, I have worked hard all morning, where is that milk? While you are at it, I would like some cheddar cheese and ham too. What do you mean you are busy and I would have to wait till lunch time? I have been working hard, as the pictures and my furriends would attest.

All right, I will go to gran and complain how you have been overworking and starving this poor old kitty. Gran always gives me what I want, work or no work.

Update on Mr Tabby
SS caught sight of Mr Tabby and me lounging side by side (not touching but only inches apart) sunning ourselves in front of the side door of the garage yesterday afternoon. By the time she returned with the camera Mr Tabby had run away. He is not used to SS yet and would run away whenever he sees her. SS is happy that we get on so well because I have not liked any of my visitors since Patch has become too old to visit. She has arthritis and is strictly an indoor kitty now.

Thankful Tuesday

Thankyou efurryone for coming by to help me celebrate my birthday/gotcha day. Great to see old furriends and new over the last few days while also raising money for The Cat Protection Society. With over 80 visitors we managed to raise $42, with gran offering to round the figure up to $50.

This is the first week of spring and what a glorious one so far with warm sunshine, blue skies and very light breezes! For the whole of my birthday week I have been fed premium ham, roast pork, cheese and fresh milk as treats - I am one happy kitty!

Last is my tabby visitor...

He comes to my garden almost everyday, walks along the fences and sits under the jasmine tree for a while. We don't play or bother each other. He must belong to some new neighbours because we haven't seen him before and he appears well fed and looked after. We don't see him after dark, only in the afternoons.

How time flies!!! I have been with SS's family for 13 years. It makes me at least 14 years old.

Well, we don't know exactly when my real birthday is because I was a stray when I joined SS's family in early September 1998. At the time, it was thought that I was about one. Since my doggie sisfur Momo in Toronto celebrates her birthday on September 2 we decided a few years ago that we would also adopt this day as my combined birthday and gotcha day. Here is my sisfur Momo....

Misery Monday

Well furriends, my SS is back from gallivanting around England (she says she was working. Whatever!). Now, you might think I should be happy, but no! Why? Because during her absence my grooming was sadly neglected. As a result, there were many mats and tangles which had to be dealt with on her return. Hence I am terribly distressed (as you can see) after the ordeal. There are patches of baldness and uneven haircut on my rump and belly as well as neck.

You can't see them? That's because I have positioned myself so that I am in the best possible angle to hide the defects. A ladycat has a reputation to live up to.

On a happier note, I would like to report that my damaged pink Barbie tent has been replaced by a much sturdier house, completed with a chimney. It's grey in colour to match my fur. My bean cousin brought it over during SS's absence to cheer me up. If you biggify it and look very hard, you can see that I have put the framed picture of my boyfurriend Socks at the corner of my house ...

As you may know, my SS is an archaeologist. However, besides having worked in Cambodia she has nothing in common with a certain celebrated character known as Lara Croft. Therefore, the picture below is purely in my imagination….

For starters, she doesn’t take me to the field. Secondly, she really digs, rather than gallivants glamorously around the countryside looking for ‘treasures’. Her treasures are broken bits of ceramics.
Actions? Yes, she has to climb across masonry in ruins, jump across stream, into ditches and trudge across deserts and jungles but never with a pistol strapped on her thigh or swing from trees. Sorry to say but this is the usual mundane action ….

Incidentally, this was taken in the moat outside the northern city wall of Angkor Thom. There you go, I wasn’t telling tales, she did work there!

Some of the 'older' kitty bloggers may remember Ruis, who has not been blogging for a while. Well, his humans are getting married today!!

So the gang - Karl, Gracie, Asta, Opus and Ollie, and myself - decide to go to the Netherlands to help celebrate, invitations or no. Since there are so many of us, we decided that we should rent a villa instead of inconveniencing Ruis. So here we are, arriving at the villa at Heel, where Ruis lives.....

For a present, we decided to give them a surprise. Now isn't that better than any present? ::sniggers::

The ceremony is to be held in the backyard of the house. So all is set for the surprise....

Can’t she see I am having a well-earned rest under the sun which only stays for a few hours each day if it decides to make an appearance at all? Is it too much to bring the stuff to me?

OK, OK, I’ll come if the offering is ham AND cheese WITH milk. Tell you what, hard work being a kitty in this household. Hope you have your humans trained better.

A yelping little dog has taken up temporary residence next door. I suppose you'd really have to feel sorry for the little mite because his mom is in hospital and he has to stay here next door to me to be looked after by her aunt, who works long hours and is hardly ever home.

He barks day and night non stop. That really isn't my fault, is it? Then why is it that SS chastises me about teasing him, just because I make a point of letting out a single mieow this side of the fence the moment he stops for a breather and doing my stretches and promenading slowly along the fence several times a day?

A kitty needs to vocalise and have a bit of exercise, don't you think?

My doggie siblings and furriends

This post is about my doggie siblings and furriends.

My oldest furriend and sissy is my namesake Momo. When I first started blogging I googled my name and found this cutie pie from Canada. SS and I visited her and we became sissies. Since I was a stray and don't really know my real birthday I took on her birthday because that was also very close to my Gotcha Day. Later, her brother, Pinot, came and he also became my brother. Pictured with them here is Momo Pinot Gris, a wine from New Zealand named after us.

Momo is the one on the right.

Then came Asta, the fashionista from the Big Apple, who is familiar to many in the Cat Blogosphere. We have had many adventures together around the world over the years.

Magnificient Khyra needs no introduction. She is a well-known figure in both the cat and dog blogging world. She is a frequent visitor to many kitties and woofies and very active in promoting animal welfare.

The youngest of my doggie pals is Fenris, my boyfurriend Socks's sibling...

Last but not least I would like to present my angel doggie siblings, Lucko and Happy, who went to the Bridge before I came...

Lucko (LoLo) was one of the two puppies of SS's sister's pair of Australian Silky Terriers. When SS's father passed away he came to keep SS's mother company, but somehow everyone considered him to be SS's dog. He was much loved by the entire extended family. When he went to the Bridge, he was over 15 years old and was buried in the corner of our back garden by his favourite tree.

Happy was SS very first pet. He was given to SS by her brother. SS was so happy to have her very own dog that she just named him Happy. He went to the Bridge many years ago. He was very ill for some time towards the end but managed to hang in there until SS returned home from studying abroad. He died peacefully a couple of days after SS's return. SS still cries when she thinks of him after all these years.

I nearly ended up with a sibling

SS's friends went to church on Sunday and returned home with a kitten. Some individual had left a young kitten in a box at the step of the church on a freezing cold morning. The minister appealed to the congregation to adopt the kitty. No one wanted him but SS's friends decided they would provide a foster home and look for a family for the poor kitty in the meantime.

They have a hairdressing business and they took the kitty to work with them everyday to give him higher exposure to prospective parents. SS went to have her haircut and cuddled the little lovebug kitten for the whole time. I nearly ended up with a sibling.

All is well that ends well. Her friend rang just now to tell SS that the kitten has been offered a forever home.

Thursday in the garden

This is officially the first week in winter and it looks like that we are going to have a wet one if the last few days are anything to go by. We had such a deluge that the garden was flooded and is just starting to dry out a bit.

This is my meatloaf pose with the christmas cactuses in the background. Surprisingly, the roses are still there, lending some colour to an otherwise dismal looking garden/swamp.

The story goes, a new BBQ pork shop recently opened in our little shopping centre. SS got some today to try them out. It was freshly roasted and smelled totally heavenly. So what would you expect a kitty to do when it was left unattended on the kitchen bench, neatly wrapped? I did what all of you would have done - jumped up, tore open the wrap and had a taste! Well, you know, I was actually jeopardising my life as a taster for the family. What if it was poisoned? I could have died but I would have saved the family. Luckily, that didn't happen.

I have been naughty

Look at this innocent face here and you would not have guessed how naughty I have been and gave SS a such a scare.....

The story goes, SS has been very busy because things have not been going too well here with home and work (the reason why we haven't been blogging and visiting much lately). Last night, she came home late and as she was turning into the driveway she saw a grey and white furry promenading along the street two doors from our house. She screeched to a stop, got out of the car at a speed she did not think possible and raced after the furry creature which happened to be yours truly, me. Well, I could have told her that there was no hurry as I wasn't really going anywhere. If I were, do you think that slow coach of a SS would be able to catch me?

She doesn't know how I managed to get out of the house and I am not about to tell. Gran might have inadvertantly let the back door opened a wee bit for a short time in the evening when a neighbour called to see how she was. She doesn't remember.

Anyway, I'd better put on a remorseful face to say that I was sorry, otherwise I would have to endure a whole weekend of lectures...

Really though, you know in your heart that I had fun being out and am not sorry at all ;)

Things are little hectic here for my SS as she embarks on retraining for a different type of work, the type that will hopefully bring in green papers. This necessarily cut down my blogging and visiting time and I miss my furriends.

We hope to resume those enjoyable activities in the near future but in the mean time I am left quietly contemplating in my autumn garden.

Purring for Sweet Praline

By now most of the regulars from the CB would have heard about sweet Praline's health problem. We are very sad about it as she is one of our dearest furriends and we hope that she and her mommy would enjoy a lot more snuggly time together. It is good that she is eating well and continues to pester her mom for treats!

Yesterday, a large envelope arrived from Praline to me. It's a calendar that I won in her 1000th post giveaway. Thanks ++++, sweetie!!

Now, I can see some of my furriends from the CB everyday and will remember the giver whenever I see it.

I have been very lucky lately with lovely winnings and gifts coming through the post to the extent that our postman asked whether it was my birthday.

First, cute KC (no introduction needed) sent me a parcel that contains a beautiful purple scarf (it's behind my head, biggify the pic if you can't see it), a CB card with her pretty self on it and a Texan dictionary card.....

What, SS? You're keeping the scarf?????? But, but, but, it's for ME!!!! Said so on the parcel. Oh well, I guess you can have it, since I didn't get you anything for your birthday and winter is coming.

I also won "the Natural Cat" book in a recent contest by Liz the Cat.....

It contains lots of good advice on cat care, nutrition and promotes the use of natural therapy.

Farewell Mickey

It's with a heavy heart that I write this post. One of the best loved mancat in the CB and my old furriend, Mickey, has run off to the Bridge. He was one of our oldest blogging furriends and we have enjoyed visiting him a lot.

Farewell Mickey, run free. One day we will meet again. Meanwhile, we will miss you, a lot.

We would also like to purr and pray for all those affected by earthquakes and resulting tsunamis, not just in Japan but also southern China. The plight in China has largely been overshadowed by the events in Japan. However, it is not less urgent and difficult in human terms.

This February is one of the hottest and driest on record. Our garden has not come up well with only the natives and the flowering trees still performing.

This is the jasmine tree with its very fragrant flowers. Does anyone know the name of the tree with the pretty pink flowers? We have had these for a long time.

This is a native plant. They did very well last year but due to neglect there are fewer blooms this year.

This is just to show that despite my frail condition, I still take my gardening duties very seriously....

Easy Sunday in the Garden

It's a little cooler in the morning after the overnight rain, so I am let out to the back garden to smell the grass and take in the fresh air.

There are also birdies up on there in the trees, but they are way too high for me to attempt to catch.

As you get older, you are wiser and don't waste energy doing the impossible. So I settle for a relaxing stretch on the lawn, while SS prepares breakfast for herself, which usually means treats for me.

I don't think I will be allowed to stay out for too long as it is going to be a hot day again. I can always watch the garden and the birdies from the French windows...

PS We are having a lot of problems visiting blogs and leaving comments. While we have signed up to be followers of blogs, we don't always get notified of new posts of the blogs we are following. Anyone else have similar problems?

Purrs for the people and animals in disaster areas

Things are not going too well for people and animals this side of the world. Widespread floods and cyclones in Queensland as well as other parts of the Australia and the recent devastating earthquake in Christchurch have resulted in many people and animals losing their lives, businesses and homes.

Please remember them in your purrs and purrayers.

My SS's birthday is coming up next week. She has asked all her family and friends to donate money towards disaster relief rather than buy her presents.

As for me I have recovered well and am looking forward to spending time in the garden this weekend, if it is not too hot.

Steaming Sunday

Kitties, you might be conned into believing that I live in Sydney but the truth is that I live in an oven. It has been so hot lately!!!!! 100F for days on end and just as you think you can breath again, the heat wave returns, as do the rain and floods elsewhere in Australia.

Due to my recent illness, I have not been going out to the garden much. Thanks +++++ to the power of purrs and tail wags around the globe, I am much better now and am also eating a little more. Drinking is another story - I just don't.

My kidney problem persists and the vet says SS has to be on the alert for my fluid status, especially on hot days when I am not drinking. So today is one of those days when it was already over 90F by 10am. Our little house has no a/c and it can be as hot inside as it is out by mid-afternoon.

Annual Purr-fur-mance Review

The time is here - the dreaded time when we kitties can have a say in the purrfurmance of our humans.

Sad to say, SS fall short on most counts....

Overall rating is a bare two paws - SS just scraps through with no colour. She will HAVE to:
1. Help me to blog more often, preferably daily.
2. Visit at least 20 furriends each day.
3. Give treats every hour on the hour.
4. Perform scritches whenever I want them and not whenever SHE wants to do it.
5. Work at graphics and photoshop skills so that I can help my furriends in organizing parties and shows.
6. More participation in CB events.

Aw, SS, despite your failures I still love you! Purrrrrrrrrs......

This week is another sad week - our sweet furriend Annie has gone to the Bridge. Run free, Annie, with our furriends at the Bridge. We will miss you, until we meet again.

Please visit her family in this difficult and sad time to offer support and condolences. It is always hard to lose a loved one, no matter how much you have anticipated the event.

Thankful Thursday in the Garden

First of all, I must say how thankful I am for all the purrs and tail wags that I received from the furriends of the CB and my doggie furriends when I was sick.

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou.....Power to the Purrs!!!!

I have been discharged from the hospital to rest at home. I only go out under strict supervision and only stay in the garden for a short while to smell the flowers. After the heat wave many of the plants have withered, except the hardy hibiscus.

Happy to say that I have started eating again, not quite as much as before, but it's a start.

Once again the purrs of the CB have pulled me through. SS and I are grateful and thankful for our furriends - you are the best!!!!

Sad Day - A tribute to Pablo

It is with a very sad heart that I am dictating this from my sick bed. My dear furriend Pablo has passed on to the Bridge. I shall always remember him as the feisty, handsome dude who had his own international fan club of which I was a member. When we first met, he was under the blanket for days, in protest to moving house. He was only showing a paw from under the blanket on the day of my first visit.

His mum and SS met for coffee when she was in Sydney for a conference and had a good netter about us. A bond was formed between the families, as it were.

We have followed each other's progress since then, inlcuding the addition of his new family member, baby Alex. We were very concerned and worried when he fell ill in the recent months but had hoped that he would recover and spend many more years with his loving family. But that was not to be.

We will miss you, Pabs, until we meet again. Run free with our furriends over the Bridge!!!!!

As for me, I was admitted to the Hospital again after vomiting. I was more dehydrated this time due to not eating/drinking and the prolonged intense heat wave. Our area had power blackout and there was no cooling - the house was like an oven when the outside temperature persisted at over 100F. I was given subQ fluids and further tests showed that my kidneys were indeeed compromised. That's why I have decreased ability in fluid regulation. The vet will teach SS how to give me subQ fluids. However, for the time being I am staying in the hospital until I eat/drink to the vet's satisfaction. It was with great relief for all that a cool change arrived yesterday, dropping more than 30 degrees F in half an hour. SS hopes I can come home soon.

Happy New Year of the Rabbit

Today is the first day of the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit. (Rabbit, did you say? Whooopppeeeeee!!!! Have you got any in your garden, my gardening kitty pals?)

Thanks to all the purrs around the world, I am slowly getting better but not well enough to be allowed out yet since it is still very hot (over 97F). I am eating a little more but still less than 1/4 of my normal amount. So SS is supplementing my diet with eggnog.

Please spare some of your purrs for victims of the cyclone in Queensland. Those poor people and animals have been through a lot - the recent floods and now a category 5 cyclone. It has passed and luckily no lives have been lost so far. Many homes were wrecked and there is renewed flooding in some areas.

Update
This is becoming a regular bad news - I am sick again
Threw up twice last night and have been hiding ever since. Stopped eating again and only had sips of ice water/milk. The temp is over 100F and SS thinks I am dehydrating. We are leaving for the Emergency Hospital soon.
Your purrs have pulled me through last week. Please, please continue. My SS is very upset at the turn of events. We thought I was getting better when I started eating again.

First of all, I must thank everyone who came by and left their purrs, good vibes, tail wags and get well wishes. I am really overwhelmed by the warmth and kindness of the furry bloggers, both old furriends and new ones and furriends of furriends.

The combined good vibes and purrs from all over the world have worked. I have started slurping some egg-nog and taken some ham and dry food. Not a lot, but it's a start. I have emerged from my hiding place and wander around the house.

Before that though, I was taken to the Emergency Hospital for a second opinion when I couldn't get in to see another recommended vet because he was fully booked yesterday.

The blood tests showed a worsening of my kidney function but the vet said that I was mildly dehydrated and sometimes that could return a worse result. I was admitted for the day for fluids and monitoring because SS could not obtain any urine from me. I never like being in hospital or away from home. So I was allowed out yesterday evening.

This morning I started eating and drinking a little and even peed and pooped. SS rang the vet and he was very happy about it. He said I needn't go back unless there was a relapse. I am to stay cool indoors and have special fluids.

I have to be on my own today because SS has to work at her casual job. So she is keeping me in her little study where there is a/c, as it is forecasted to be around 105F.

This is me after returning from the hospital last night.

Thankyou, once again. I feel so blessed to have so many furriends who care about me. Please continue your purrs because I still have some way to go towards recovery.

Purrs needed

Things are not going so well. I have had very little to eat or drink for the last 2-3 days. Last night I was even refusing treats. Only 2 weeks ago I was at the vet's for my annual checkup and all was relatively OK, given that I have compromised kidney function.

I have been hiding, which is a bad sign that I am unwell.

True, it has been hot and I don't normally eat much in the heat but I have never refused cool milk and Temptations in the past.

SS is trying to get an appointment for me to be seen this afternoon/evening.

Please purr that it's only the heat and nothing too serious!!!!

Update: The vet doesn't know what's wrong with me. There is a tooth that may need attention but that's not what causes the problem of eating/drinking. I am home now but may have to return with samples of urine and stool. The weather has cooled down but I am no better.

Thankyou all for the wonderful purrs. I am very thankful to have so many caring furriends.

Update Sunday 30 Jan pm
I am no better and back into hiding. It's coming up to almost a week now and I have had a total of less than 2 spoonfuls of wet food and just a few sips of water. There are only fur and bones left. We are going to a new vet first thing tomorrow morning for a second opinion. There must be a diagnosis and some treatment. My SS is very upset.

We are very touched by all the well wishes, purrs and woofs that have come our way and we will be visiting all of you later to thank you purrsonally.

Shelter Aware Day

As an ex-street kitty, I am 200% behind shelters, especially the kind souls at no-kill shelters. Kudos to all the volunteers in these shelters. Without all the wonderful work that they are doing, many more kitties would suffer and be homeless.

Every little contribution helps. SS and her friends have decided to donate to the shelters and charities instead of buying each other birthday and Christmas presents.

It's summer in our part of the world so it can get rather hot. No, I am not complaining one bit, especially when I have all these options:

Enjoying the morning and late afternoon sun while lounging on the lawn.....

Where I can nom on grass whenever it takes my fancy.....

Move to the shade when it gets a little too warm....

When it gets hot in the mid afternoon, I retreat to the cool and seclusion of the alley between the shed and the fence to have my nap and meditate on life....

Should I fancy some cold milk and cheese, I only need to mieow a few times at the back door. Ah, I do so enjoy my quiet life here and shudder to think of my time as a street kitty many years ago. I purr that more strays would be adopted, like me, and have a secure, loving home.

Thursday in the Garden

Ever since SS has trouble with her shoulders nothing much gets done in the garden and there are weeds everywhere. Luckily, the grass still get mowed, otherwise we would be living in a jungle with all the recent rain. So, if you direct your gaze away from the flower beds the garden still looks reasonable, with the hibiscus and other native flowers blooming, alongside some of the colourful border plants that SS had put in earlier.....

Sniff, sniff - the newly cut lawn smells nice.

These just appeared this summer. We don't know the name.

These were given to us earlier as small cuttings by our very kind neighbour and they have turned out to be very pretty border plants.

Please purr for my SS's shoulders to get better soonest, otherwise she is not going to get a job! This situation may well impact negatively on the frequency of me getting ham and treats although there are still a couple of months of cat food stored in the garage.

We just heard that our good furriend Annie is in hospital. She hasn't been well lately. Please purr for her and her very worried mom.

The Mad Catter Tea Party in honour of Gracie's 2nd birthday was boisterous but was enough under control for us not to be thrown out of the Wonderland. So, after the Party Karl suggested we had a wander around and tried some of the colourful magic mushrooms....

As many of our furriends are aware, several regions of Australia are under water. Many have lost their lives and homes. We ask for purrs and prayers for lost human and animal lives and for those who are left to rebuild their homes.

On a lighter side, this was a strange sight that greeted a family who returned to their house after the water had subsided....

A cow has sought refuge on their roof. The house was underwater and the roof was probably the only dry area, so the cow probably just climbed up. It didn't look scared or freaked out, it looked very relaxed: 'Oh yeah, I'm dealing with my situation no problems'. It was even waving its tail from side to side and munching on the leaves on a nearby tree. The owner of the cow is a mystery.

Foxes are known for their wits. Here is one who certainly knew how to save himself...

Knots, knots, go away!

Oh, woe!!!!!!

After dinner last night I was comfortably settling down on the chair when out came the towel. The towel and the carrier are my nemesis. I am always terrified when these come out. They really should be locked in the garage and forgotton.

I was bundled up and held. Worse to come - the dreaded scissors!!!!

The ordeal took forever, I put up a fight as usual and cried as if I was being murdered.

I WAS (nearly)!!!

There was BLOOD. Lucky to report that it wasn't mine. Stupid SS cut herself. Her blood stained my fur.

Needless to say I went into hiding for the rest of the evening, but not before I had my compensatory treats. SS also needed a treat after the stressful task. No, she did not like Temptations, she preferred liquer chocolates. Goodness knows how many she had, she was still at it when I went into hiding.

Weekend Mewsings

As you may know, I am SS's first kitty and I was a grown cat when I adopted the family many years ago. She only ever had doggies before. Since we started blogging we read about toys and treats that our furriends had. So poor SS didn't want to make me felt left out, she went and bought some toys and treats for me.

Back then we didn't have Temptations on the shelves of the local supermarket and I didn't really like the treats that were available. I mentioned this on Chatzy and the Hotties' mom sent us a couple of packets - I simply became addicted. Just LOVE the stuff. Every time we had visitors from the US (aka SS's brother and niece), we ask them to bring some, until one time they were confiscated by the nasty Customs Officers. Now, we have some varities of Temptations on sale, but not to the extent you lucky kitties have. Well, I practice Zen, and therefore am quite content with what I have.

That brings us to toys. SS bought some feather toys, a mousie, a rubber ball and dangling ribbons with bells. I was totally uninterested. Nope, didn't touch them! She tried to interest me in others, including some that we won and others that our furriends sent as presents. Nope, no play! The extent of my play was bunny-kicking slippers and shoes that I found around the house.

SS doesn't know why because it seems that adult cats also play with toys. I was a stray but not obviously feral. Maybe I was never given any toys to play with as a kitten. Or maybe I was too busy trying to survive on the street to learn how to play with toys.

Any suggestions?

Thursday in the garden

There is not a lot going on in my garden with SS's shoulders still causing her pain. This also accounts for us not blogging and visiting much lately. The human vet says that it will be months before they would heal. Meanwhile, she is jobless.

Nonetheless, the sunny is shining and the weather is perfect, so this kitty is not going to let it go to waste. I inspect the grounds between the plants and the pots....just look at the weeds!!!!!! Yikes, SS, we'll be living in wasteland soon if you don't get working.

And check out the dysfunctional fountain which hasn't been working for years but is perfectly good as a sanctuary for me....

Life is good. Better, if SS could get a job. Best, if I can have unlimited tuna, cheese and treats.

Hey kitties, just in case you thought you have heard the last of me before Christmas, here I am again. In a role that you would love - Santa Helper.

The gang has been engaged by Santa to help deliver presents to all the good boys, girls and furries. So here we all are, loaded up with presents and ready to set off in Santa's sleigh to visit YOU.....

I was a little bored this sunny Sunday afternoon after all the visitors have left and decided to have a look at the old posts from three and a half years ago when I first started blogging. Of course, I was talking to myself most of the time then since I had no visitors, except Charlie the dog, who had since gone to the Bridge.

I mused on a lot of things then, such as my ancestry, the life of graduate students and their pets, the plight of lonely street kitties, the illustrious past of us kitties, the important role played by cats in art and literature etc. I didn't know of the cat blogosphere then and imagined myself to be the only abnormal feline babbling away in a vacuum.

Those were the days...

While I am reminiscing, here is one of the first photos that SS took of me, long before my blogging days and before the digital camera became part of my life...

Thursday in my spring garden

This spring we have our fair share of rain and thunderstorms. However, sunny days like today bring out the beauty of our native flowering trees and plants...

The yellow is the wattle, the lilac is the jacaranda, the red is the bottle-brush. We don't know what the pretty orange ones under the jacaranda tree are called, but they come and greet us every year.

In my younger days I used to play with the fallen flowers of the jacaranda and bottle brush. Now I am not so interested in the flowers, although I still climb the trees occasionally. The favourite activity of this granny cat is....

Basking in the sun, of course!

Tough times

Things aren't going so well in my neck of the woods, or garden. There have been days of thunderstorms and my garden is periodically flooded.

SS has not been able to work because of painful shoulders, which the human vet says will take a long time to get better. Surgery may be needed if it doesn't improve. Since SS is a contract/casual worker, she doesn't have sick pay.

Gran had one fall after another, resulting in an icky back which prevents her from bending down to my level.

In times like this, a kitty would just have to look at the bright side. Between the storms there are patches of sunshine on the porch. There is still a roof over our heads. I spy boxes of cat food in the storeroom. SS is spending more time at home with me. Gran can still reach for treats and throw bits of cheese to me.

Dear furriends, please purr that things will get better for us soon.

My furriends, Auntie Stinkie and Inigo, are both very ill. Please join me in purring for them and their families.

Sammy and Andy's family is also going through a difficult period. Please purr, visit and consider helping them, if you can.

It's my 13th birthday today. Well, actually we don't really know that. I was a stray and came to live with SS's mom in 1998. I was thought to be about 1 year old then. No way I was going to tell them how old I was. Not the done thing for a lady to reveal her age. The reason SS adopted today as my birthday is because this is my Gotcha month and it's the day of my doggie sissy Momo's birthday.

Today I am allowed to do my favourite things without fear of being reprimanded, such as.....

Sleeping in the dirt and getting my fur into a mess

Sitting on the top of the high wall and surveying the activities in the garden

Staying up on the roof and wouldn't come down when called

Of course there will be cold meats and cheese for lunch and lots and lots of treats throughout the day. There will be milk and all sorts of drinkies too. Please drop by my garden and stay a while.

Do help yourselves to the snacks and the drinks!!!!

When you are tired you can laze on the grass in the sun or rest up inside my pink tent....
